White Rhino in a Valley
Created in remembrance of a species brought to the edge of extinction, this original work reflects on absence, fragility, and the consequences of human intervention. The white rhino is placed within a wide valley, allowing space and stillness to emphasize both its scale and its vulnerability.
The piece was created using acrylic paint and airbrush on Fabriano cotton paper. The surface was meticulously prepared with multiple layers of gesso to ensure archival longevity and structural stability before painting began. The image was developed gradually over the course of approximately one and a half months, allowing layers to build slowly and atmospherically rather than through haste.
Once completed, the work was sealed with GamVar satin varnish to protect the surface while maintaining a soft, natural finish suited for long-term display.
The paper measures 21 × 30 inches, a standard size that allows for professional framing without the need for custom fabrication. This is a one-of-one original, and no exact reproductions will be made.
